Ola launches progressive Web App

Ola is the leading cab aggregator in India, with a relentless mission to drive mobility for a billion Indians. A lightweight mobile website that offers users, especially in smaller towns and cities, an app-like experience on simple smartphones, requiring a fraction of the data used by native apps.

Ola, the Uber of India, has announced a partnership with Google to launch a Progressive Web App (PWA) designed to open Ola’s platform to millions of users who don’t yet have the latest and greatest smartphones. Ola PWA operates on 2G speeds and users can make offline bookings via the website as well. The site is similar to Ola app in terms of look and feel and seamless integrates Ola Money and Ola Care as well. PWA will enable the use of Ola platform across hundreds of cities in India and addresses a significant market opportunity of customers and driver partners, the company said in a release. As the first ride-hailing app in the APAC region that is using PWA technology.

Similar to the Ola’s native app, users can book a cab across all categories on this mobile web app and pay for their ride via Ola Money. The app also comprises features like OTP verification for rides, maps for pick up and drop location, ride later options and Share Pass, among others.
