The long wait to be able to stream TV shows and movies from Amazon on the Apple TV is nearly over. Amazon Prime Video is officially making its way to the Apple TV. BuzzFeed News is reporting that an Amazon Video app designed for Apple’s set-top box will be announced at next month’s WWDC keynote. Then the app will reportedly hit the tvOS App Store this summer.

appleinsider-1-l-l-l-l Amazon had previously declined to offer its Prime video app for the Apple TV, despite Apple’s “all are welcome” policy, when it launched its TV app store in 2015. The feud between Apple and Amazon started way back in 2015, when the latter company removed Apple TV from its online site, as it began pushing its Fire Stick TV.  As part of the agreement, Amazon might again start selling the Apple TV on its site, though the exact date has been missing for now. Apple users wanting to watch Amazon Prime Video and other streaming content have needed to rely on Amazon’s iOS app, which includes AirPlay support. Also, tvOS apps can use ‘On-Demand Resources’ to host up to 20GB of additional content on the App Store.

Bringing Amazon to the Apple TV could be essential if Apple plans to release an updated version of the product that supports 4K playback. Amazon is one of the largest sources of 4K movies and TV shows, though a fair amount of content is also available from services like Netflix and YouTube. Both of those companies offer apps for Apple TV. Amazon Prime Video is included with an Amazon Prime subscription at a cost of Rs. 499 per year.
